Giclée Printing

Giclée (ghee-clay) is French  for “squirt” and was the adopted  term to describe the first superb prints done on an Iris printer.  It has an advantage over lithography in that small and even an individual print can be made without having to stockpile large numbers of prints for each piece of art work.  Giclée printing allows the artist to test the market without holding all the limited edition at once. It allows for more work to be shown and marketed while allowing for cash flow for the artist.  Because of the nature of the printing editions tend to be lower than traditional methods therefore making them highly sought after by collectors. Each print is done using Ultrachrome 8 color archival pigment inks tested to have a lifespan of over 100 years.  Depending on your preference a print maybe done on a choice of fine art quality archival velvet paper, German 100% rag paper, premium luster paper or canvas.  The latter is usually stretched. A Certificate of Authenticity states that the print is indeed giclee and archival and limited.  The scan of a client’s work is archived on CD and stored safely.

About the Printing Process.

Pigment inks are used which have been tested to have an expected life of over 100 years. Using the latest machine for Giclée printing these inks produce fabulous images. However the print is as only as good as the scan.  After a proof print is taken on the chosen media it may be obvious that some adjustment needs to made to the color, retouching or a perhaps a change in fine art media from a matt to a gloss or canvas for example may then sought by the client to bring it as close to the original as possible.  A proof or adjusted proof is required for client approval before the final printing takes place. All prints are hand brushed with a coat of clear professional print shield to protect from UV rays, pollutants and the need to be under glass unless specifically requested to omit. If you wish to provide the scan please have the files done at 300-360 dpi unless the print is going to be much larger or smaller than the original.   They should be readable by PC. A small proof will be made for you to compare and to make a decision if you want work done to the scan to improve it or not before printing. The choice is yours.  Flatbed scanning done by us will include adjustments to color, tone and sharpness.  Transparencies may be sent preferably already transferred to a CD or high resolution digital photographs on CD.

Print and scanning prices are very competitive. Please phone for quote.   845-658-7389
